THE PARABLE OF THE RICH MAN AND LAZARUS.

Jesus Christ before his ascension to heaven spoke through parable to his disciples, followers etc. One of the parable he spoke about was the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. Let us look into the lessons to learn from the parable of the rich man and Lazarus.

In Luke 16:19–21 the word of God says” There was a certain rich man, which was clothed with purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously everyday. And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate full of sores, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores.”

The sins of the rich man.

Unmerciful. The rich man was unmerciful towards Lazarus the beggar. Matthew 5:7 says” Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. The rich man despite his wealth and resources was not merciful to Lazarus.

Stinginess. Stinginess is another sin of the rich man. He is unwilling to share his food to Lazarus. The bible recorded that the beggar was desiring to be fed.[Luke 16:21] In other words, because of his condition, he was desirous to be fed from the crumbs that fell from from the rich man’s table. The rich man was not generous to Lazarus the beggar.

Inhospitable. The rich man was also not hospitable, [1 Peter 4:9]. The rich man has more than enough to show hospitality to the poor man.

It’s better to be rich, wealthy, and prosperous because that is the wish of God to his children[3 John 2]. The rich man belong to the category of people Jesus Christ was addressing in Matthew 25:42–43. Whatever God blesses you with is not for you and your household. So many of us belong to the category of the rich man. You are blessed to be a blessing to others.

The rich man is stingy, unmerciful, inhospitable, and unfriendly. Some of us are arrogant, selfish, proud and unmerciful towards those that are not related to us. Do you know that your wealth and resources can lead you to hell if you didn’t change the way and manner you use it. For example if you are using your wealth to sponsor killing, kidnapping and other nefarious activities then you are doom for hell.

We should learn from the mistake of the rich man and make amend in other not to incur the wrath and punishment from God.
